Carpets, stairs and landings

Carpet supplied and fitted across Telford. New gripper, proper underlay, stairs cut in by hand, and the pile running the same way from the hall to the top of the house.

The underlay is half the carpet.

People choose a carpet for an hour and choose the underlay in ten seconds, then wonder why it flattens off in the traffic. Underlay is what your feet actually feel and what stops the pile crushing.

Marc fits new gripper rather than reusing the old strip, tapes the underlay joints so nothing shifts, and lays it before a roll of carpet comes off the van. On stairs it is cut in tread by tread, which is slow and is the reason a stair carpet either looks right or does not.

Stairs are where fitters get found out.

A straight flight is straightforward. Winders, a turn at the bottom, a landing that meets three doorways, that is where the cutting has to be right, because there is nowhere to hide a bad join.
